West. Una vista sul mare incantevole

Transardinia West, too, evolves along paths, mule tracks and dirt roads, avoiding tar roads as much as possible and riding across the wildest areas of the island, rarely crossing villages, only to sleep and eat. Besides the mountains of the hinterland, it touches various stretches along coasts and cliffs with a breathtaking view over the sea, where the green of the vegetation merges with the deep blu of the sea.

After leaving Alghero we'll encounter the seaside village of Bosa, a midieval town rich in history, the beautiful cliffs of Santa Caterina di Pittinurri and the Sinis peninsula, the dunes of Piscinas, world famous for their amazing height and fine sand, where junipers with trunks twisted by the wind grow, up to the southern point of the island, near Pula, heritage of the ancient nuragic, phoenician and roman village of Nora.

The route was studied by Amos Cardia, one of the first guides of Transardinia Classic. Two years of exploring in mountain bike, many of which are documented with photos and subtitles on the the website, were necessary to complete this western circuit.

The organization and training required are the same as for Transardinia Classic, even though the West circuit may be slightly more accessibile. Nevertheless it should not be underestimated because of it's mountain laps with great climbs, like those in the Iglesiente, Sulcis and Monte Linas areas, among  the flourishing vegetation and the industrial archaeology of the abandoned mine villages, with a most interesting visit to the Rosas mine, recently restructured and during Ichnusabike's Transardinia you'll have the opportunity to to visit it's tunnels, engine rooms and headquarters under the guidance of ex miners.
On the second last night of our tour we'll sleep in the residences of the mining site.
